Cordova, Alaska

THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR THE BEST SKIING ON THE PLANET

Points North is located in a unique location where the storms from the pacific ocean meet the Chugach mountains.

Nestled on the waters edge between Prince William Sound and the Copper River on the southeastern corner of the Chugach mountains, the incredible little town of Cordova provides access to everything Alaska has to offer.

Something magical happens here. Warm storms plaster the mountains and are then supercooled by arctic air, drawing out moisture and creating the best skiing on the Planet!

The Mighty Chugach Mountains

Cordova, and the surrounding Chugach Mountains are truly a natural treasure. With no road access from the rest of the mainland this area is only accessible by boat or plane.

The Chugach, Wrangell, St. Elias and Alaska ranges converge just southeast of our zone in Wrangell - St. Elias National Park. At 13.2 million acres, it is the nation’s largest national park. Formed by plate tectonics and shaped by glaciers, some of these mountains rise vertically with an elevation gain greater than that of the Himalayas.

  • Part of Cordova’s charm is her remoteness, yet she is not isolated. Scheduled daily jet service from Anchorage, Juneau, and Seattle makes it easy to visit, even on a tight timetable. Ferries operated by the Alaska Marine Highway carry passengers and vehicles between Cordova, Valdez, Whittier and Seward on a year-round basis. And, while no highway connects to the rest of Alaska, more than 50 miles of well-maintained local roads guide you to amazing one-of-a-kind adventures.

  • The descendants of the first inhabitants of the Cordova area, the Eyak and Chugach, keep their legacy alive through traditional arts and crafts. The ingenuity of the Copper ore era of the early 1900′s , which brought in the railroad, can still be felt as you drive across the Million Dollar Bridge past the Child’s Glacier. Dating back to the 1800′s, commercial fishing has been the mainstay of the Cordova economy. Today, visitors can watch as modern day fishers gear up for their seasonal salmon fishery.
